Interview with Prince Livijah @ Dub-Up Session 2023, Ghent
Go back 12 October, 2023
Prince Livijah’s parents emigrated from the Caribbean island of Saint Vincent to the United Kingdom in the early 1960s. They settled in High Wycombe, just outside London, where Livijah was born, grew up and is still living.
As a teenager in the early 1980s, Livijah got introduced to sound system culture as a box boy and occasional MC for the local King Nazarite Sound System, in which his older brother was involved. Later that decade, he also moved with the High Wycombe based Stereophonic Sound System, before becoming part of the Jah Youth Sound System crew in the 1990s.
Today, Prince Livijah is still a core member of the Jah Youth crew, spreading his message of Rastafari and African liberation everywhere he is performing. We sat down and reasoned with him at a Dub-Up Session in Ghent.
