Chalice Sound System are pioneers. In France in general, and in their hometown Lille in particular. The sound was founded around 1995, being at the time based in a self-made community centre where they held and hosted all kinds of cultural acitivities (weddings, funerals, dances,…) for wide range of people. The community centre in Wazemmes was a place where people with all kinds of ethnic backgrounds were welcome. Like-minded French, Djiboutians, Senegalese, Guyanese, Guadelopians and many more found their homebase there.

Over the past 30 years, Paulo, Youthman and their crew influenced a large number of people in- and outside of their area. Up until today, Chalice still runs their hand built and valve-powered soundsystem and emphasizes spreading the message of Rastafari through reggae music. We sat down with Paulo and Youthman at Wadada Festival 2023 to talk about their journey.
